Hurricane Milton Updates: Deaths & Hospitalizations Reported

Milton, a Category 3 storm, made landfall on Siesta Key, Florida, at 8:30 p.m. yesterday. Siesta Key is a barrier island located near Sarasota.

At 2 a.m. today, the storm's center was about 45 miles west-southwest of Cape Canaveral, with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph, indicating a Category 1 hurricane.

Hurricane Milton causes deaths & over 2 million without power

Poweroutage.us claimed that more than 2 million households and businesses in Florida were without power. The most outages were reported in Hardee County, as well as adjoining Sarasota and Manatee counties.

People in the Tampa Bay area flee as Milton aims for Florida. However, local officials in St Lucie County recorded two deaths and numerous more hospitalizations as tornadoes hit the region before Milton arrived.

Rescuers are seeking to locate anyone trapped at a retirement community in Fort Pierce, where hundreds of homes have been declared "completely destroyed."
